I finally got around to watching the first season of Breaking Bad, was quickly hooked and managed to get through all four seasons in about a fortnight. I haven't been that drawn into a tv series to the point where I don't really want to do anything else but watch more episodes for ages. Hooked on the blue stuff. It is that good. Definitely comparable to something like the Sopranos. I temporarily abandoned watching Boardwalk Empire and the Walking Dead, because as good as those shows are, they sort of pale a little beside Breaking Bad. It doesn't seem to be very well known in the UK at the moment though. Hardly anyone I've spoke to over here has heard of it.
I think the way they seamlessly handle Walt's journey from mild-mannered, put-upon chemistry teacher to ruthless badman is superb. You barely notice it happening, but the character at the end of season four is barely recognisable as the character from season one.
Saul is the best character though. My favourite Saul line is when he is first introduced to Walter's wife: "I see your husband has the same taste in women that he has in lawyers. Only the best... with just the right amount of dirty."
Amg, I love this show. I'm still working my way through Season 3 and I can only imagine where it's going; every time I think to myself "This is too intense, they're gonna have to dial it back or it's gonna get ridiculous" they up the tension somehow.
...Should television be stressful to watch? But it's a good kind of stress.
I'm ripping through season 4 right now and it's fantastic, so refreshing to watch something that doesn't decline in quality after season 2 but just ramps things up and up.
