    Rather splendid Northern pounder

And if you want a laugh, take a look the top two comments on this clip (instrumental version, live at Wigan):

Been hearing this one a lot lately.

I was supposed to be going out to a Northern do tonight, sadly not possible, these will remind me of what I'm missing:

Oh well, there's always next week.

Nice uplifting horn work in that tune. Plays well against the sombre lyric.

'Zombie March' by Nat Dove & The Devils

From the soundtrack to the film 'Petey Wheatstraw, the Devil's Son-in-Law', which sounds mental:

    I'm seeing this crew tomorrow.

This reggae-tinged British soul tune is doing great things for me at the moment.

It's brilliant. Found it on a collection called British Blue-Eyed Soul 64-69. Does 'Blue-Eyed Soul' mean something specific? Like 'done by Brits' or something along those lines?
  • EvanEvan November 2011
In the U.S. "Blue-Eyed Soul" generally refers to soul/R&B music performed by white musicians.

    For example:

That's a good find. Reminds me a little of the Foundations, especially the singer.

That Chic gig was quite possibly the best show I've ever been to. Talk about lost in music.

Don Cornelius, the creator, producer, and long-time host of the U.S. music show Soul Train, was found dead this morning, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

So here's a little more of what he did:

Poor guy and his family. That's horrible.

Some class tunes there though, Evan. Especially Machine Gun which, I think, The Beastie Boys sampled.

Don't miss Lionel Richie in the Commodores clip.

Oddly enough, I posted those songs last morning and heard "Pusher Man" used as background music on a TV show in the evening.  So the synchronicities are getting a bit more prompt.

    A bit of Marvin Gaye:

    Gear!

    What's the tune, Gef?

  • GefGef November 2012

'Compared To What' -  I think this one by Mr Flood's Party (ker-azee name). They did a couple of versions

I like how the dancer in centre shot is a big fella, but is still managing to do the Northern 'glide' around the floor - very graceful!

It's a beautiful thing, isn't it, that technique? I could dance from now till Ragnarok and still be unable to get it right.
